Personal Life

Social Media

I'm not a big social media user. I was an early Facebook adopter, but have pretty much stopped using Facebook other than to reply to Birthday wishes once a year. Used Instagram in the past to post pictures of flights of craft beer from different breweries and brew pubs. Never really got into Twitter, I think I've mainly used it to publicly complain about stuff, and haven't used it since it changed to X. Started using the Fediverse with Mastordon as an alternative to Twitter.

3D Printing

I started 3D Printing in 2021 when I got a Creality Ender-3 V2 as a Christmas gift. Did some basic mods to improve print quality, added bed leveling, dual lead screws, replaced the firmware and eventually installed Klipper. Upgraded to a Bambu Lab X1 Carbon with AMS in late 2023.

I enjoy printing and designing functional parts, using different 3D CAD programs including Autodesk Fusion 360, FreeCAD, and OpenSCAD.

Most of my designed models are available for free on the main model sharing sites

Open Source Software

I started my career as a software developer and have always been interested open source, and before that public domain, software. I wrote and maintain a small project to export 3D printer data from Klipper for monitoring in Grafana.

Self Hosting and Home Automation

I enjoy tinkering with different self hosted applications. I run a small home lab on my NAS, a collection of Raspberry Pi devices, and some public facing stuff, including this site, on a compute instance on Oracle Cloud.

For home automation I use Home Assistant as the central hub to manage all our connected devices, plugs, and lights.
